Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What this site is, where the record comes from, and what it will not tell you.

What is MyNeta?

MyNeta is a public record of who holds office in India. It shows what the official record says about them. Every fact keeps a link to the source it came from, and the date we fetched it.

Where does candidate information come from?

MyNeta combines candidate election affidavits with official parliamentary and election records, public datasets, and attributed sources such as ADR/MyNeta, PRS Legislative Research, Wikipedia, and Wikidata. Every domain keeps its own source and disclosure label.

Is this data pre-loaded, or fetched live?

Stable identity rosters are versioned with the app. Source documents used for enrichment are fetched by server-side ingestion, pinned to a revision where possible, and cached in object storage; opening a profile reuses that cache instead of repeatedly fetching the upstream page.

How often does the data update?

It depends on the record. Each source has its own refresh interval. A page shows when its data was last fetched. Where a source has no interval set, we say that plainly instead of calling the data fresh.

Does MyNeta score or rank politicians?

No. There are no scores, no ratings and no league tables. We do not mark anyone as good or bad. A number like that would be our opinion dressed up as data. We show the record and leave the judgement to you.

Does a declared court case mean the person is guilty?

No. A candidate must list cases against them when they file to stand. A case is a claim that someone did something. It is not a finding of guilt. Only a court decides that. Each item says where it stands.

A section is empty. Does that mean nothing happened?

No. An empty section means we have not loaded that record yet. It does not mean the event never happened. Each part of the site shows its own coverage status, so you can tell the two apart.

Why is a person or an election missing?

Our coverage is partial and we say so. Some records are not digitised. Some are not public. Some we have simply not taken in yet. We would rather show a gap than fill it with a guess.

I found something wrong. How do I report it?

Use the report link on any page. Tell us which fact looks wrong and point us at a public source. A report opens a review item. It does not change published data on its own.

Can I download the data?

Yes. The data page lists the sets we publish. Each one can be fetched as a CSV file or as JSON. Rows keep the id of the source document they came from.

Is MyNeta neutral?

We do not back any party or any candidate. The same rules apply to every person on the site. We do not write praise or blame into the copy. Where a claim is disputed, we name who made it.

Can I read the site in my language?

Yes. You can switch language from the top bar. Not every phrase is translated yet. Where a translation is missing, the English text is shown in its place.

Do I need an account?

No. Everything here can be read without signing in. Items you save are kept in your own browser, not on our servers. The site counts page visits so we can see what is used.

Not answered here?

The methodology page sets out how sources are graded and how people are matched. If a fact looks wrong, report it and point us at a public source.
